NCSS Charity Golf Tournament
Sports play an important role in American society. While sports have been a “social glue" that bonds America together, sports cause injuries, even deaths. It is the mission of the National Center for Sports Safety (NCSS) to decrease the number and severity of such injuries.
To help us fulfill this mission, we have developed a course (PREPARE) designed for educating coaches on sports safety. The course is aimed at educating coaches on how to prevent common injuries, how to recognize symptoms of potentially dangerous conditions, and how to stabilize a situation until a medical professional arrives.
As a follow-up to last year’s 1st Annual Charity Golf Tournament, NCSS hosted its 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Alabama.
The tournament played an instrumental role in fulfilling NCSS’s mission: to promote the importance of injury prevention and safety on all levels of youth sports through education and research. The NCSS focuses on decreasing the number and/or severity of injuries through developing and teaching sports safety courses and collecting, analyzing and researching injury data.
NCSS had an exceptionally successful event and thanks to our contributors, staff and volunteers we were able to double the amount of money raised from last year’s tournament. A total of 25 teams competed for the chance to win an Apple iPad, Nintendo Wii and Apple TV (per participant). A twist to this year’s tournament included a fourth team drawn at random for their chance to compete in a shoot-out.
Our supporting sponsors were a valuable assets: Alabama Power, Buffalo Rock, Honours Golf, Lemak Sports Medicine and Renasant Bank.
