Birmingham, AL — The Bruno's Memorial Classic (BMC) has partnered with the National Center for Sports Safety (NCSS) to offer volunteers the opportunity to take PREPARE, an online sports safety education course. Understanding the necessity of sports safety is very important as a volunteer at a sporting event and that is why the BMC is offering this course free of charge to its volunteers.
PREPARE consists of seven modules aimed at providing valuable information on how to prevent injuries, respond to emergency situations and other general sports safety topics. PREPARE, originally designed for youth volunteer coaches, is relevant to all individuals participating in sporting events. The program provides valuable information beneficial to volunteers on and off the golf course. BMC volunteers will be better prepared at this year's tournament and area communities will also benefit as these individuals take the skills learned and knowledge gained with them after the tournament ends.
“There are countless numbers of volunteers that devote their time and effort to this tournament each year,” said John Marovich, Tournament Director. “Their safety, the safety of the players and the safety of our spectators is a top priority for us. We are very grateful to the National Center for Sports Safety for offering us this opportunity to our volunteers.”
“Education is the key to prevention,” states Dr. Larry Lemak founder of the NCSS. “If we can prevent just one emergency situation or injury it is worth the time and effort,” adds Lemak.
After completing PREPARE, participants will receive a sports safety patch, a certificate of completion and will be added to the NCSS' National Registry of Participants who are sports safety educated.
The NCSS is a non-profit organization founded to promote the importance of injury prevention and safety on all levels of youth sports through education and research.
The 14th Annual Bruno's Memorial Classic will return to Greystone Golf and Country Club, May 16-22. Over the last thirteen years, the Bruno's Memorial Classic has raised more then $7.7 million for local charities. For volunteer and ticket information please call (205) 969-9229.
