Issue Solution
We can't ask our coaches to volunteer their time and then require them to purchase this course. Consider incorporating Sport Safety Education into the overall costs of your organization. Like uniforms and equipment, sports safety education should be a requirement before play can begin.
How can our organization cover the cost of the course? Secure a local sponsor
  • Identify a parent wanting to become involved with the team, but who cannot coach
  • Ask them to head up this effort & NCSS can provide materials to secure a sponsor
Include cost as part of athlete registration fee
  • Have the athlete's registration fee cover everything PLUS sports safety education for your coaches and take credit for your commitment to sports safety education!
  • Average increase to registration is $3 per player per coach educated.
  • How many parents will object to a small increase for something that has a direct impact on the safety of their kids?
Our coaches are volunteers so we can't require them to become educated. Youth safety is something that cannot be compromised, it is up to the leaders in youth sports to make the safety of our athletes a top priority. The health and welfare of your athletes and children depends on it.
Our coaches are really busy so we can't expect them to complete this course. Although all coaches are not the same, the vast majority do it for the love of the game and or for the love of their child participating. Coaches will respect the standards that you as an organization set for them especially when those standards benefit them as a coach. Don't underestimate your coaches!
